| In the Annapurna, Everest and Langtang region the well established and facilitated guesthouses serve a variety of food from pancakes, pasta, porridge, pizza and mixed vegetables to the Nepali national dish, dal bhaat (rice, lentils, pickle and cooked vegetable). When trekking through more remote areas it's only possible to find dal bhaat, instant noodles, and tea at local establishments. Nepalis generally eat meals at 10am and 8pm with tea and snack breaks in between. It's wise to follow the same schedule to avoid wasting firewood to cook special dishes. Bring along some dried fruit, crisps, chocolates or granola with you from Kathmandu or Pokhara if you get hungry. Snacks like chips and instant noodles as well as tea are available in on most treks from guesthouses and inns. If you are on a camping trek your cook will usually make rice, pasta, soups, pancakes, potatoes, oatmeal and whatever locally grown vegetables can be found. All food is fresh, nourishing and organically grown locally. A vegetarian diet can easily be accommodated on a trek. |
